SCOPE OF WORK

The client installed a new corrugating and laminating machine and therefore required a new boiler. Prior to this, a new burner was also installed on their existing boiler as it was due for an upgrade.

MAIN OBJECTIVE

To supply a reliable state of the art steam plant.

INSTALLATION DETAILS

The site had to be commissioned before Christmas 2018. The team worked from the 16th of December to complete the installation before the deadline and in turn ready for plant start up early in 2019. Service Engineers, Dale Lottering and Rudy Timfat were in charge of the boiler and burner wiring. With calculated planning and working around the clock, they were able to complete the installation and commissioning within the timeframe given by the client.

TECHNICAL INFORMATION

Service Engineer, Rudy Timfat, designed a new prototype panel for the project, which has also become the standard panel layout for our new installations.

A custom orange powder coated panel was manufactured and assembled by Stratos Panels with burner FD Fan motor VSD and Feedwater VSD for Autoflame modulating water level controls. The burners Heaterpack is controlled by SSR (Solid State Relay) PID control.

There are temperature controllers for stack temperature and ring main temperature monitoring.

The control panel has a MK8 MM controller for boiler water level control and for burner management. There is a MK7 DTI for remote monitoring and early warning alarm notification via email.

KEY FACTORS FOR SUCCESSFUL INSTALLATION OF THE KIT

The boiler was prepared with an Autoflame Water Level Probe Pot and ready for burner installation. Every effort was made to ensure the installation was a success and proper functionality of equipment. All plant personnel were trained on the proper maintenance of the system.

Valuable advice, tried-and-tested best practices and niche expertise contributed to the success of the installation.

BENEFIT AND COST SAVING TO SITE

The boiler is 95% efficient and can operate at 18 bar which is more than what the plant requires.
